Camptotarsopoda annulitarsis Stein, 1913 View in CoL

( Figs 1–12 View FIGURE 1 – 12. 1 )

Type-species: Camptotarsus annulitarsis Stein, 1913 , by designation of Sèguy (1937:275) [Junior homonym, preocc. Camptotarsus Thorell, 1887 ].

Camptotarsopoda Strand, 1928:48 View in CoL (replacement name for Camptotarsus Stein ). (BMNH)

Recognition. ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 – 12. 1 ) C. annulitarsis View in CoL can be easily segregated from its congeners by the following characters: notum dark brown; postsutural dorsocentral setae 4; katepisternal setae 0+1 and with many cilia on disc of katepisternum; legs black, fore tibia creamy white on basal third; postpronotum and notopleuron with grey pollinosity; male mid tibia with a row of anterior and posterior conspicuous erect setulae.

Description. General coloration. Head with frontal vitta black; fronto-orbital and parafacial silver pruinose; gena grey; antenna and arista black. Ground-colour of notum dark brown dusted with grey pollinosity on postpronotum and notopleuron; pleura grey dusted. Spiracles brown. Wing slightly smoky brown. Calypters brown with darker margins; halter yellow. Legs dark brown with coxae grey pruinose, fore tibia with basal third white ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 1 – 12. 1 ); in female, basal third of mid and hind tibiae yellowish. Abdomen brown with grey dust, and with brown paired spots in all tergites; two longitudinal dark brown stripes laterally.

Male. Body length: 4.0– 4.5 mm; wing length: 4.1–4.6 mm

Head. Holoptic, orbits almost touching in the middle; eye bare; one pair of crossed frontal seta at lunula level; ocellar seta long and forward directed; vertex with cilia forward directed ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 – 12. 1 ); antenna inserted at mid-height of eyes; postpedicel about 2.5 times length of pedicel; arista with very short thin pubescence; seta on pedicelum long; palpus filiform; vibrissa middle-sized; proboscis with labellum developed.

Thorax. Dorsocentral setae 2+4; acrostichal setulae developed pre and post-suturally in two or three rows, prescutellar pair longer; postpronotum with tuft of setae; 3 postpronotal setae, the inner one shorter; 1 presutural and 2 postsutural intra-alar setae; 1 presutural and 2 postsutural supra-alar setae; 2 postalar setae; prealar seta absent. Notopleuron with two setae similar in size. Scutellum with one sub-basal and one apical pair of setae, both long. Anepisternum with series of long setae. Katepisternal setae 0+1 and with many cilia on disc ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 1 – 12. 1 ). Lower calypter large, about 2.2 times length of uppe calypter. Wing veins bare; veins R4+5 and M parallel at wing-tip; costal spine not developed. Fore femur with anterodorsal, dorsal and posterodorsal rows of setae, longer on apical third; apical third of ventral surface with one long seta; fore tibia with long dorsal preapical seta; mid femur with anterodorsal, dorsal and posterodorsal long setae on basal two-thirds; posterior surface with 2 preapical setae; mid tibia with dorsal and ventral rows of setae; hind femur with anterodorsal, dorsal and anteroventral complete rows of setae; hind tibia with anterodorsal and anteroventral complete rows of setae.

Abdomen. All tergites with lateral setae. Sternite 1 bare. Sternite 5 as in Fig. 6 View FIGURE 1 – 12. 1 .

Terminalia. General aspect as in Fig. 5 View FIGURE 1 – 12. 1 . Sternite 6 asymmetric, with only one arm developed. Cercal plate and surstylus as in Figs 7 and 8 View FIGURE 1 – 12. 1 ). Aedeagus as in Fig. 9 and 10 View FIGURE 1 – 12. 1 .

Female. Body length: 3.5–3.8 mm; wing length: 3.5–3.8 mm

Similar to male differing as follows: body with much less coverage cilia than in male; dichoptic, frons at level of anterior ocellus about one-third of head width and with parallel margins. Frontal row with 4 setae, the superior one backward directed. Postpronotum without tuft of setae. Fore femur with anterodorsal and anterovetral rows of spaced setae, more conspicuous on apical third; mid femur with an anterodorsal spaced row of setae and anteroventral setae on basal half; mid tibia not modified as in male and with one median seta; mid tarsus not modified; hind femur with anterodorsal and anteroventral rows of setae on apical third; hind tibia with dorsal preapical seta. Ovipositor medium sized with large tergites, as in Figs 11 and 12 View FIGURE 1 – 12. 1 .
