Figure 3 View FIGURE 3

Description. Male. Body large. Face almost smooth with scattered impressed dots; fastigium frontis separated from fastigium verticis by a very fine suture ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 ). Ocelli distinct, median ocellus slightly larger than lateral ocelli ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 ).

Anterior margin of pronotum faintly projecting, posterior margin arched ( Fig. 3B View FIGURE 3 ); lateral lobes longer than high, with deep V-shaped furrow ( Fig. 3C View FIGURE 3 ).

Fore coxae with 1 small spine; fore and middle femora unarmed, tibiae ventrally with 4 pairs of spurs and 1 pair of apical spurs. Hind femora with 7 – 11 internal and 5 – 7 external spines on ventral surface; dorsal surface of tibiae with 5 – 6 internal and 6 – 7 external spines and 1 pair of apical spurs, ventral surface with 1 pair of subapical spurs and 2 pairs of apical spurs.

Wings developed, reaching the middle area of hind tibiae. Second and third abdominal tergites with fine stridulatory pegs ( Fig. 3D View FIGURE 3 ). Eighth abdominal tergite prolonged backward and a little ventrad. Ninth abdominal tergite furrowed in the midline, the lateral sides faintly convex that terminate at ventro-internal angle into a large compressed sickle-shaped process with serrate apical margin ( Fig. 3G View FIGURE 3 ). Subgenital plate about two times as wide as long, ventral surface with median furrow, posterior margin faintly concave ( Fig. 3I View FIGURE 3 ). Styli cylindrical, gradually upcurved in lateral view, apices obtuse; inserted at apico-lateral margins of subgenital plate ( Fig. 3I View FIGURE 3 ).

Female. Unknown.

Coloration. Body yellowish brown. Eyes brown. Ocelli pale yellow, medium ocellus surrounding purpureal pattern. Genae black ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 ). Internal margins of antennal sockets black, scape and external margins of pedicel black. Dorsal surface of head black. Pronotum with wide black margins which widened at anterior and posterior margins, the anterior margin surrounding an arched yellow-brown spot on each side ( Fig. 3B, C View FIGURE 3 ). Apical areas of all femora black, basal and apical areas of all tibiae black. All spines of all tibiae black. Tegmina with brown veins.

Measurements (mm). Male: BL 31.54–33.53, PL 7.14–7.98, HFL 19.73–20.04, TL 29.12–31.42.

Material examined. Holotype: male, Diding, Jingxi , Guangxi, August 15, 2023, coll. by Qianwen Zhang and Zixiu He . Paratypes: 3 males, the other information as holotype.

Distribution. Guangxi (Jingxi).

Discussion. The new species differs from Capnogryllacris axinis Bian, Liu & Yang, 2021 by body yellowish brown, medium ocellus surrounding purpureal pattern, genae and dorsal surface of the head black, pronotum with wide black margin, the processes of ninth abdominal tergite narrower with small tooth. The new species is similar to Capnogryllacris melanocrania (Karny, 1929) in appearance but differs from the latter in the shape of male tenth abdominal tergite processes. It differs from Capnogryllacris nigromaculata Ingrisch, 2018 by medium ocellus with purpureal pattern, the processes of male ninth abdominal tergite narrower.

Etymology. The new species was named in honor of Chinese entomologist Professor Shanyi Zhou (Guangxi Normal University), who dedicated his life to the classification of ants.
