Catasticta hebra is a common and widespread species. Three subspecies are present in Venezuela: Catasticta hebra potamea (C. & R. Felder, 1861) (TL: Venezuela, [Aragua, Colonia] Tovar) (= angulifera Avinoff, 1926, TL.: Venezuela, Las Quiguas), Catasticta hebra crowleyi Butler, 1901 (TL: Venezuela, (Mérida), Monte Sierra and Culata), and Catasticta hebra apollinari Fassl, 1915 (TL: Colombia, [Cundinamarca], Río Negro).

Catasticta hebra potamea would occur from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta ( Colombia), eastward to Miranda and Guárico, along the Venezuelan Cordillera de La Costa and Cordillera del Interior. It flies between 1200 and 2000 meters. Very few specimens from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta ( Colombia) are known to us and specimens from Sierra de Perijá (Zulia) were not available, thus we can not assert all populations belong to the same subspecies. Specimens from Sierra de Aroa (NE of Barquisimeto) are transitional in pattern between ssp. potamea and crowleyi.

In the Cordillera de Mérida, Catasticta hebra crowleyi is also common and widespread, flying from 1200 to 2200 meters. Táchira populations east of San Cristóbal Valley are transitional in pattern between ssp. crowleyi and apollinari from El Tamá.

Catasticta hebra apollinari is restricted to El Tamá in Venezuela, being mostly a species of the Colombian Cordillera Oriental.
