ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1879: 15 (key), 16 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ totius Italiae [all Italy]”.
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype ( MZUF: Box 66): Chelidomyia Rnd. / cypseli m., ♀, ano spinoso / 3392 / lectotype Chelidomyia cypseli Rndn., T. C. Maa , [19]62.
PARALECTOTYPE EXAMINED: 1 ♀ (mislabeled by Rondani as ♂) ( MZUF: Box 66): Chelidomyia Rnd. cypseli m., ♂ / 3393.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Stenepteryx hirundinis (Linnaeus, 1758) View in CoL ( Soós & Hůrka 1986: 219, Pape et al. 1995: 8).
REMARKS: Rondani (1879: 16) described both sexes of Chelidomyia cypseli without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. Maa (1963: 28) designated a lectotype (♀) and paralectotype (♀) numbered, respectively, “3392” and “3393”. The male type has presumably been lost.
