Chelidomyia melbae Rondani, 1879 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1879: 16 (key), 17 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ ad Insulam caprariam … in Pedemontio [Capraia Island … Piedmont ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype ( MSNG): Capraia, 12.VIII.[18]75, Violante / Presa sul [collected on] Cypselus melba / Typus / Melbae Rndn. / Chelidomyia melbae Rndn. , Typus!
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Crataerina melbae View in CoL ( Soós & Hůrka 1986: 218, Pape et al. 1995: 8).
REMARKS: Rondani (1879: 17) described Chelidomyia melbae from an unspecified number of males: “ Mares aliquos tantum observavi in Cypselo melba repertos, a Doct. Gestro ad Insulam Caprariam, et a Prof. Bellardi in Pedemontio [I observed only some males found on Cypselo melba , by Dr. Gestro on Capraia Island, and by Prof. Bellardi in Piedmont]”. Guiglia (1957: 194) reported the MSNG male of Chelidomyia melbae as “ holotype ”; she unambiguously selected a single specimen in the type series to serve as the name-bearing type and therefore this specimen must be considered as the lectotype (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 74.5). Maa (1963: 46) examined the MSNG and MZUF material for Chelidomyia melbae and reported that Guiglia fixed the lectotype. Two females in the MZUF, which Maa incorrectly considered as paratypes are not included in the type series.
