Chrysochlamys microcarpa (Poeppig) L. Marinho & A. Caro View in CoL , comb. nov. ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 )
Basionym:— Marialva microcarpa Poeppig , Nov. Gen. Sp. Pl. 3: 14. 1845 [1840].
Type:—[ PERU]. “Peruvia subandina”, crescit in sylvis montanis Peruviae ad Pampayaco, February 1830, fr., E. F.D. Poeppig [1777] (lectotype, perhaps holotype, designated here: W [no. W-0051859!]).
≡ Tovomita microcarpa (Poeppig) Walpers, Repert. Bot. Syst. View in CoL 1: 392. 1842.
Notes:— Type specimen of Tovomita microcarpa View in CoL (W-0051859) does not have floral buds or flowers, structures used to differentiate Tovomita View in CoL from Chrysochlamys, Clusia View in CoL or Dystovomita View in CoL . However, there is a vestige of an axillary inflorescence, which in the Clusieae occurs only in Chrysochlamys View in CoL or Dystovomita View in CoL .
When D’Arcy (1978) proposed elevate Dystovomita to genus level, he proposed that Dystovomita species exhibit “a minor venation inconspicuous and inflorescences sessile and fascicled”, characters not seen in the type of Tovomita microcarpa . For these reasons, we proposed to T. microcarpa type matches with taxonomic concept of Chrysochlamys . Additionally, we considered that another morphological character agrees with this decision, like the shape and consistency of leaves; the shape and dimension of petiole bases; the scars, pattern, and degree of branching on axillary inflorescence (personal observations of LCM and AVCS).
