Distribution:— Mexico (regional endemic).
Notes:— Müller (1865) described this species on the basis of two Liebmann collections, one made near Tehuacán, Puebla and the other made at Morro de Boquilla, Veracruz. As shown by Breckon (1979), these actually represent two different species, with the specimen from Veracruz being Cnidoscolus aconitifolius (C- 10011148). He designated the specimen from near Tehuacán as the lectotype.
