Rydberg (1898) described this genus encompassing two species, which have more recently been classified in Ivesia ( Ertter & Reveal, 2014) . Type: C. multifoliolata (Torr.) Rydb. (basionym Horkelia multifoliolata Torr. ); designated by Rydberg (1908a). Comarella belongs to the Ivesioid clade.
