Type material examined. 2 exx. Lectotype ( NHM, here validated): card-mounted, “ Cyphon pumilio \ Type D. S. ” [handwritten on card], “LECTO- \ TYPE ” [round label with blue border], “ Type \ H. T.” [round label with red border], “ Auckland \ New Zealand . [red underline]”, “ Auckland Broun” [handwritten], “ Sharp Coll \ 1905-313.”, “ Lectotype ♀ \ Cyphon pumilio \ Sharp \ det. T. Nyholm 1981” [in Nyholm’s hand] . Paralectotype ( NHM, here validated): card-mounted, “ Cyphon pumilio \ var.” [written at base of card in Sharp’s hand], “PARA- \ LECTO- \ TYPE ” [round label with blue border], “ Auckland [red underline] \ New Zealand . ”, “ Auckland ” [handwritten], Sharp Coll \ 1905-313.”, “ Paralectotype \ Cyphon pumilio \ Sharp \ det. T. Nyholm 1981” [in Nyholm’s hand].

Remarks. Sharp studied two specimens of this species, both collected in Auckland (Sharp 1878).
