The following four species are here transferred from Carchesiopygus to Platypus . The first three ( P. acanthurus , P. lobacanthus , P. psilacanthurus ) appear to be closely related to Platypus lewisi Blandford , a species distributed from Japan and Korea to Northern India. The fourth species ( P. dentipennis ) is distinct from all described species of Platypus known to us (see below). The first three species can be distinguished from Carchesiopygus by the following characters: Frons with very similar sculpture in both sexes. Pronotum in both sexes with a cordate patch of numerous small mycangial pores of equal size on each side of the median line. Metacoxae prolonged ventrally, the posterior face deep. Fifth male ventrite smaller relative to the more anterior ventrites and not deeply concave.
