Culex ( Microculex) aphylactus Root, 1927: 584 ( ♂ G). Holotype in USNM. Type locality: Rio Soberbo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Rozeboom & Komp 1950: 156 ( ♂ G); Lane & Whitman 1951: 363 ( ♂ G, ♀, Pe, Le); Belkin et al. 1971: 25 (ty. info.).

Male genitalia ( Fig. 7): Tergum IX lobes developed with slight inward inclination; length 3x basal width; distance between lobes 4x basal width; apex with 3 simple, short, straight setae; occasionally another short seta located at outer basal level of lobe. Gonocoxite oblong; subapical lobe with group of setae, 1 leaf-like and 2 others; 2 dorsoventral setae, the one inserted at the base of the columnar process longer. Columnar process protuberant with basal area wider than apex; apex with 2 medium-sized, apically curved, setae ( a and b); seta a inserted basal to and smaller than seta b. Columnar process with group of minor setae; mesoventral surface with 4 simple, straight setae. Gonostylus curved, elongate, pointed, narrow; broad, leaf-like gonostylar claw with pointed apex. Aedeagus with prominent ventral process curved ventrally; dorsolateral process pointed; dorsal process developed. Aedeagal sclerite hook-like, curved, pointed apically. Paraproct elongate; crown with 5 curved, pointed blades.
