Cultrinotus poultoni Bolívar, 1915 View in CoL (Fig. 41)

Material examined: 4 specimens. Mozambique, Zambeze , Tombara 1929, P. Lesne (1♂); Mozambique, Chemba, Nova Choupanga 1929, P. Lesne (1♂); Mozambique, High Nhamapaza, Moringone 1929, P. Lesne (1♂); Mozam- bique, Chemba, Bas Sangadzé 1929, P. Lesne (1♂) ( MNHN) .

Remarks. C. poultoni was described from Salisbury ( Zimbabwe), C. luanensis Uvarov, 1953 from the Luano valley ( Zambia). Both are brachypterous, with vestigial hind wings. According to Dirsh (1958) only a few differences in the shape of pronotum, fastigium and antennal segments exist to separate these two species. Willemse (1994) noted that the types of the two species are very similar, but further material was needed to establish a possible synonymy. The above listed specimens were collected in Mozambique and are very similar to both C. poultoni and C. luanensis . Thus, following the considerations by Willemse (1994), it is reasonable to propose the synonymy between C. poultoni Bolívar, 1915 and C. luanensis Uvarov, 1953 . The male of a third species of Cultrinotus Bolívar, 1915 , C. apicalis ( Walker, 1870) is long-winged and is known from “East Tropical Africa”.

Unlike Porthetis , Cultrinotus poultoni has no bristles on the inner ventral side of hind femora and the Krauss’ organ is quite smooth. These characters are unusual in Porthetinae .

Distribution. C. poultoni covers Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
