Currhaeus ruschii sp. nov.
( Figs. 1, 2 View FIGURES 1–3 , 8 View FIGURES 4–10 , 15 View FIGURES 15–17 )
Type material: Holotype, male, BRAZIL: Sertãozinho -SP; Reserva Biológica Augusto Ruschi ; Malaise branca—Fragmento 1; 17-31.viii.2011; V. C. Silva, P.F. Donda & G. Inácio [col.] ( DZUP).
Diagnosis: Pronotum with lateral margins slightly convex. Elytra yellow, basal 1/4 of suture to costa 1 and apical 1/3 brown ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 4–10 ). Aedeagus with phallus widened in basal 1/3–1/ 2 in dorsal aspect, with distal subspherical expansion, phallobase elongate with short lateroapical thorns and thin suspensorial arms. Junction between base of phallus and phallobase short and almost as wide as phallus width ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 15–17 A-C).
Description: Pronotum yellow with median brown subtriangular patch. Elytra yellow, proximal 1/4 of suture to costa 1 and apical 1/3 brown ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 4–10 ). Trochanter and basal portion of the femur yellow.
Eye diameter 1.6× longer than the interocular distance. Antennomeres 3–5 with approximately the same length ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–3 ). Maxillary palpomere 2 about 2.6× longer than palpomere 3 and 1.3× longer than 4 ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–3 ). Pronotum subpentagonal, 1.2× wider than long medially, slightly widest at basal margin, anterior margin rounded, lateral margins slightly convex, basal margin bisinuous, median longitudinal carina divergent, forming slender areola at posterior 1/3. Elytra 4.1× longer than humeral width, bearing mostly irregular oval cells. Prosternum and mesosternum trapezoidal. Hind femora as long as tibiae, 3.2× longer than trochanter. Attachment of femur to trochanter hardly oblique. Aedeagus with basal 1/3–1/2 of phallus widened and apex bent in almost right angle to right in dorsal aspect, narrowing before distal subspherical expansion ( Fig. 15A, B View FIGURES 15–17 ). Phallobase elongate, with short lateroapical thorns and thin suspensorial arms. Junction between base of phallus and phallobase short and almost as wide as phallus width ( Fig 15A, C View FIGURES 15–17 ). Body length: 7.7 mm, humeral width: 1.6 mm.
Etymology: the species is named after the great naturalist Augusto Ruschi.
Distribution: Brazil (Southeast region, São Paulo state, Sertãozinho municipality, Augusto Ruschi Biological Reserve) ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 ).
