Cytheridella boldii Purper 1974

Cytheridella boldii —Purper 1974: 654–655, pl. X fig. 1–4; C. boldii — Martens & Behen 1994: 26.

Type locality: Lake Valencia , ARAGUA, and CARABOBO States, Venezuela. No details of the type locality (GN 10º10’46” N, 67º43’52” W). Holotype (♀)— UFRGS, MP – 0–318. Paratypes (♁)— UFRGS, MP –0–319, separate valves and juvenile forms MP –0–320 to MP –0–324.

In Venezuela: corresponds to the type locality (Purper 1974) .

Remarks: geographical distribution may include the Dominican Republic. Purper (1974) notes that according to Dr. van den Bold the same species may be present in Recent and Pleistocene deposits (Jimani Formation) in Bacia Enriquillo, Dominican Republic, which Bold (1975) reports as Cytheridella ilosvayi (?). The material used to describe C. boldii was extracted from recent sediments obtained from Lake Valencia ( Venezuela). In addition, there are records of C. boldii in Pleistocene strata from Lake Valencia, Aragua, and Carabobo States ( Binford 1982) and Pliocene, Siquire formation, Miranda State ( Bold 1986). In this work, we use the original spelling assigned by Purper (1974), considered valid according to ICZN ( ICZN 1999, Art. 32.1, 33.3, and 33.4). This name has been used by Martens & Behen (1994), Rodríguez & Suárez (2003), Wrozyna et al. (2018), as opposed to the alternative spelling ( C. boldi ).
