Dasymutilla andreniformis (Smith)

Mutilla andreniformis Smith, 1855 . Cat. Hym. Br. Mus. 3:55. Holotype male, Mexico, Vera Cruz (No. 15.962) [BMNH] (examined).

Diagnosis of Male. This species can be diagnosed with the unique combination of characters that follows: the entire body is clothed with conspicuous, but separated, pale setae, except that the mesonotum is clothed with ochraceous setae, the setae are not so dense as to conceal the sculpture except on the mesonotum, the integument is entirely black, the antennal scrobe is not at all carinate, there is a median pit on sternum II filled with setae, and the pygidium has a conspicuous apical fringe of setae.

Female. Unknown.

Distribution. Mexico (Veracruz).

Remarks. This species, known only from the holotype, is very similar in appearance to D. veracruz sp. nov. However, the latter lacks a pit on sternum II.
