Dialeurolonga Dozier View in CoL View at ENA
( Figs. 31–37 View FIGURES 31 – 37 D )
Dialeurodes (Dialeurolonga) Dozier, 1928: 1001 . Type species: Dialeurodes (Dialeurolonga) elongata Dozier, 1928: 1001 - 1002, by original designation and monotypy.
Dialeurolonga Dozier ; Takahashi, 1951: 354. [as full genus].
Diagnosis (based on SEM study of type species): Puparium pale, elongate, dorsal surface convex; dorsum punctured without tubercles; submargin not separated from dorsal disc, submargin with a series of conical-shaped papillae, evident at least on anterior and posterior end of puparium; caudal and thoracic tracheal opening areas marked by distinct pore, sometimes with a median tooth; longitudinal moulting suture reaching margin and transverse moulting suture reaching submargin; submedian and subdorsal setae absent. Cephalic, first, eighth abdominal and caudal setae present; eye spots absent; abdominal segment VII not reduced medially. Abdominal segment VIII of elongata with a median pore. Vasiform orifice triangular ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 31 – 37 D ), longer than wide, posterior edge slightly elevated; operculum covering more than a half the length of orifice; lingula knobbed, exposed, not reaching beyond the posterior end of the orifice. Thoracic tracheal furrows absent but caudal furrow present, smooth. Ventrally, submargin demarcated by a ventral fold, caudal and thoracic tracheal folds marked by granular stipples.
The other species currently listed in this genus lack the large pore on tergite VIII. Moreover, they share the following characters, and require further study: vasiform orifice subcordate; submargin without a row of papillae or obsolete papillae; subdorsum with a series of setae; tracheal pore area deeply invaginated; median area of abdominal segment VII reduced; caudal furrow indicated with tubercles.
Remarks: Of the three Australian species previously listed in this genus only D. rusostigmoides remains included. This species is distinguished from Dialeurolonga species by the puparial shape, cuticle colour, indented tracheal pores with internal teeth, and a reduced seventh abdominal segment, with a pronounced mesometathoracic suture. The deeply indented tracheal pores and presence of tubercles in the caudal furrow indicate similarity to Indoaleyrodes , but further study is needed before placement in an appropriate genus.
