Distribution. Brazil (new record), Paraguay (Guairá: Villarrica).

Comments. Pimentel & Pujol-Luz (2001: 18), in their revision of Raphiocerinae , synonymized Dicranophora brevifurca James, 1943 with D. bispinosa ( Wiedemann, 1830) (see also Woodley 2011: 406). After examination of the holotype of both species, however, it became clear that both species are distinct (images of one syntype of D. bispinosa : http://daim.snm.ku.dk/digitized-type-collection-details-simple?catno=zmuc00024851). The genus Dicranophora Macquart, 1834 is characterized by the presence of a cylindrical projection, sometimes shorter, as in D. astuta Williston, 1888 (see Pimentel & Pujol-Luz 2001: 22, fig. 76), sometimes longer, as in D. fermuspiculata Godoi & Rafael, 2013 (see Godoi & Rafael 2013: 87, fig. 7), that comes out from the scutellum distal margin and forms a forked process, with the two scutellar spines at its apex. These two species herein examined ( D. bispinosa and D. brevifurca ), however, have a distinct scutellum shape and size of scutellar spines, clearly not forming a cylindrical base for the two marginal spines and, consequently, the forked process. Therefore, these two species should not be placed in Dicranophora . As well, we examined the holotype of Dicamptocrana jorgenseni Frey, 1934 , which was described based on a single male, from the same locality (Villarrica, Paraguay) of Dicranophora brevifurca . Both species, based on males, share the same body coloration pattern and scutellum shape, hence D. brevifurca stat. rev. has its previous position as a synonym of D. bispinosa modified and it is now proposed as a new synonym of Dicamptocrana jorgenseni . It is worth noting that D. bispinosa remains now as the only species of Dicranophora for which the cylindrical projection of the scutellum is absent and it is probable that this species is conspecific with Pezodontina guianae Lindner, 1949a .

We add the first record of the Dicamptocrana jorgenseni from Brazil, based on five males and one female, all labeled as: Brazil, São Paulo, Turmalina, Fazenda São João , 20°00’13”S 50°26’02”W, 08.i.2008, Malaise preta, F.B. Noll leg. ( MZUSP). This includes the first female specimen reported of this species, which is the only specimen with smaller scutellum spines, indicating a probable feature that varies between the sexes GoogleMaps .
