Distribution in China. Fujian, Zhejiang ( Chu & Zhang 1997 as Dinoderus pilifrons Lesne, 1895 ). Undoubtedly more widespread in China than the published records suggest.
Other distribution. India, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam. Introduced to Australia, New Zealand, USA, Europe ( Liu & Beaver 2018).
Host plants. Beeson and Bhatia (1937) included Dendrocalamus strictus , Oxytenanthera nigrociliata and other bamboos as the host plants. It also attacks the wood of a variety of trees.
