Description
Male. Body length 5.0 mm. Head: eye bare; frons about 1.5 times as wide as anterior ocellus; frontal vitta dark brown, obliterated in the middle, anterior frons with silvery-white pollinose patch, frontal setae 8–9, the longest seta reaching anterior ocellus, with a pair of hair-like upper orbital setae, ocellar setae equal to the longest frontal setae, inner vertical setae long and large, but outer vertical setae short and small; parafacial with brown-gray pruinosity, about 1.3–1.4 times as wide as 1st flagellomere; antenna black, 1st flagellomere about 1.8–2.0 times as long as wide, arista ciliated, the longest aristal hairs shorter than its basal diameter; facial carina developed, almost on one perpendicular line with genal setae; epistoma obviously situated in front of frontal angle; gena with gray pruinosity, its anterior margin extending to vibrissal angle, with 2–3 rows of upcurved subvibrissal setulae, other 2–3 rows of setae curved towards downward, genal height about 1/7 of eye height, and also shorter than parafacial width; proboscis thin and long, prementum with grey pruinosity, about 6.0 times as long as broad; palpus black, about 1/2 length of prementum; dorsal area of occiput with 2–3 rows of long hairs.
Thorax. Ground color black, with sparse gray pruinosity; scutum with four indistinct vittae and 4 irregular rows of presutural acr, postsutural acr 1, dc 2+3, ia 0+2, pra about 1.5 times as long as posterior notopleural seta; notopleuron with hairs; lateral and ventral margins of scutellum, basisternum of prosternum, anepimeron, meron and katepimeron all bare; katepisternal setae 1+2.
Wing. Brown, slightly hyaline; basicosta black, costal spine short and small, Sc straight; R4+5 and M veins parallel, more or less separated distally; veins bare except C vein with hairs; calypters yellowish, the lower one protruding as tongue-shaped; head of halter black, its stem brown.
Legs. Entirely black; fore tibia with 1 pv in distal 1/3, always with 1 fine pv in the middle, 1st tarsomere on fore tarsus concave apically, its ventral surface with a finger-like apical projection that is shorter than length of 2nd tarsomere on fore tarsus; mid femur with an av row in distal half, only 2 setae situated in distal 1/3 stronger, about 1/4 length of the femur, pv row complete and shorter in the middle, 3 preapical pd; mid tibia with 1 preapical av, 2 ad, 3–4 pd, 3 pv; hind femur with a complete av row, a p row about 7–8 setae in basal 2/5, without pv; hind tibia with 3 av, in distal 2/3 with an ad row and 2–3 stronger setae in it, 2–3 strong pd, 3 hair-like pv, with an apical ventral projection, and 2 long setae on the projection; fore claws and pulvilli longer than the length of 5th tarsomere, mid claws and pulvilli equal to the length of 5th tarsomere, hind claws and pulvilli shorter than the length of 5th tarsomere.
Abdomen. Black, long egg-shaped or ovoid with sparse grayish pruinosity, all tergites with indistinct lateral patch, sternite 1 bare, sternite 2 with 2–3 pairs of long setae in distal half; apex of cerci shaped like buttocks in posterior view, processes on inner margin of surstylus blunt in the middle in lateral view.
Female. Body length 5.8 mm. Frons about 1/3 width of head; frontal vitta about 2.0 times as wide as fronto-orbital plate, with a pair of orbital setae, and a pair of interfrontal setae, palpus about 2/5 length of prementum; 1st tarsomere on fore tarsus without finger-like apical ventral projection, hind femur without p row in basal 2/5, but with 1 fine pv in the middle, 2 long pd, its ventral surface without apical ventral projection, claws and pulvilli of all legs short and small; sternite 2 with a pair of long backward setae; 3 very small spermathecae; other characters the same as the male.
Type material
Holotype, male, P.R. CHINA: Xinjiang, East Kunlun, Kaerdong Wave, 4100 m, 28.vi.1984 (Chao-qun Xiang).
Allotype, P.R. CHINA: 1 female, the same data as holotype.
The specimens are deposited in the Institute of Entomology, Shenyang Normal University, Shenyang, China.
Remarks
This new species resembles Drymeia spinifemorata (Stein) , but it differs from the latter in having 8–9 pairs of frontal setae, vibrissa distinct, parafacial about 1.3–1.4 times as wide as 1st flagellomere, epistoma protruding over vibrissa and frontal angle, antero-upper margin of gena with 2–3 rows of upcurved subvibrissal setulae, and other 2–3 rows of setae directed downward, genal height about 1/7 of eye height, shorter than parafacial width; wing base brownish; 1st tarsomere on fore tarsus concave apically, on ventral surface with a finger-like apical projection, shorter than length of 2nd tarsomere on fore tarsus; mid femur with 2 long av in distal 1/3 and a distinct row of pv, mid tibia with 1 av and 3 pd; hind femur with a p row containing 7–8 setae in basal 2/5, without pv; hind tibia with a large apical ventral projection bearing 2 pv.
