Valid name: Nyctinomops laticaudatus (E. Geoffroy, 1805) fide Simmons (2005); Nyctinomops gracilis (Wagner, 1843) fide Lim et al. (2005)

Syntypes: ZMB 2467 , skin, skull not extracted, male, adult . ZMB 2495 , body in alcohol, skull not extracted, male, adult. Both specimens from Cuyaba, Mato Grosso, Brazil; collected by J. Natterer.

Comment: Carter & Dolan (1978: 87) found only the specimen ZMB 2467 and assumed that this is one of at least two of the original Natterer specimens on which the name D. gracilis was based. Carter & Dolan (1978: 87) also mentioned an additional syntype in the ZSM (ZSM 135 female, adult, skin, skull not extracted, leg. J. Natterer, 12 July 1824).
