has come to my attention that Pycnoides is a preoccupied name. Emelijanov (1964) ( Hemiptera : Cicadellidae : Deltocephalinae : Athysanini ) published Pycnoides as a subgeneric name, Handianus (Pycnoides) Emelijanov, 1964 , prior to the publication of my genus. Therefore, Pycnoides Sanborn is a junior homonym under Article 53.2 and must be given a new name under Articles 23 and 52 (ICZN, 1999). As a result, I propose Dyticopycna nomen novum as a replacement name for Pycnoides Sanborn, 2020 following Article 60 of the Code (ICZN, 1999). The new genus name is a combination of Dytico- (Gr. dytikos, western) and – pycna to indicate the western distribution of the genus compared to the true species of Pycna along with the previous generic assignment of most species. The gender of the proposed genus is feminine.

The type species of Dyticopycna nom. nov. is Cicada semiclara Germar, 1834 following Recommendation 60A and Articles 67.8 and 72.7 of the Code (ICZN, 1999). The sixteen species currently placed in Pycnoides Sanborn , Pycnoides antinorii ( Lethierry, 1881) , Pycnoides baxteri ( Distant, 1914) , Pycnoides becarrii ( Lethierry, 1881) , Pycnoides dolosa ( Boulard, 1975a) , Pycnoides hecuba ( Distant, 1904) , Pycnoides moniquae ( Boulard, 2012) , Pycnoides natalensis ( Distant, 1905) , Pycnoides neavei ( Distant, 1912) , Pycnoides passosdecarvalhoi ( Boulard, 1975b) , Pycnoides quanza ( Distant, 1899a) , Pycnoides semiclara ( Germar, 1834) , Pycnoides sylvia ( Distant, 1899b) , Pycnoides umbelinae ( Boulard, 1975b) , Pycnoides vitrea ( Schumacher, 1913) , Pycnoides vitticollis ( Jacobi, 1904) , and Pycnoides zambiaensis Sanborn, 2020 , become Dyticopycna nom. nov. to become Dyticopycna antinorii ( Lethierry, 1881) n. comb., Dyticopycna baxteri ( Distant, 1914) n. comb., Dyticopycna becarrii ( Lethierry, 1881) n. comb., Dyticopycna dolosa ( Boulard, 1975a) n. comb., Dyticopycna hecuba ( Distant, 1904) n. comb., Dyticopycna moniquae ( Boulard, 2012) n. comb., Dyticopycna natalensis ( Distant, 1905) n. comb., Dyticopycna neavei ( Distant, 1912) n. comb., Dyticopycna passosdecarvalhoi ( Boulard, 1975b) n. comb., Dyticopycna quanza ( Distant, 1899a) n. comb., Dyticopycna semiclara ( Germar, 1834) n. comb., Dyticopycna sylvia ( Distant, 1899b) n. comb., Dyticopycna umbelinae ( Boulard, 1975b) n. comb., Dyticopycna vitrea ( Schumacher, 1913) n. comb., Dyticopycna vitticollis ( Jacobi, 1904) n. comb., and Dyticopycna zambiaensis ( Sanborn, 2020) n. comb.
