The Egle brevicornis View in CoL species group
This equals the ‘ Egle brevicornis section’ as proposed by Griffiths (2003) for the Holarctic Egle ciliata ( Walker, 1849) [= E. muscaria auct.], the European E. brevicornis ( Zetterstedt, 1838) , and the Nearctic E. protuberans Griffiths, 2003 and E. washburni Griffiths, 2003 . A new species from Europe, E. anderssoni , is described below.
Medium- to relatively large-sized species (wing length 3.4–6.0mm). The following assumed autapomorphies for the Egle brevicornis species group are characteristic for both sexes of all included species: (1) Dorsocentral setae 2 + 4(–5) instead of usual 2 + 3; (2) notopleuron with several accessory setulae around posterior notopleural seta; (3) hind tibia with apical pd-seta exceeding length of subapical d-seta; and (4) hind tibia without av-setae. Male characters: Hind tibia without any p–pv-setae. Abdomen very narrow, genitalia small and recessed.
