Drapetis (Drapetis) monochaeta: Rafael, 1995: 736 View in CoL , fig. 6 (ovipositor), 14 (wing) (lectotype designation). Drapetis monochaeta: Yang et al., 2007: 368 View in CoL (cat.).

Diagnosis. Predominantly black specimens. Scutum with few setae, pleurae with dark yellow spots. Hind leg black, except basal half of femur yellow; tibiae and tarsi darkened. Hind tibia bearing 1 strong anterodorsal bristle. Veins R4+5 and M bowed in apical half of the wing.

In the following, we update the redescription of Rafael (1995), presenting characters nowadays utilized in taxonomy of this group. We also update the terminology utilized.

Re-description. Lectotype female. Anterior ocellar setae proclinate, long, cruciate, posterior pair lost. Pedicel with circlet of short setulae. Thorax with dark yellow spots on postalar callus, upper posterior corner and posterior margin of anepisternum, katepisternum and anepimeron; scutum slightly longer than wide, narrow on anterior part, 6.2 times longer than scutellum, with few yellow setae, conspicuous setae reddish yellow. Proepisternum bearing 1 long seta on upper part, lacking setae just above fore coxa; postpronotal setae prominent; 2 notopleural setae (posterior one longer than anterior); 3 supra-alar setae; 1 very long postalar seta. Acrostichals apparently in 2 complete rows; dorsocentrals distinct from intra-alars, 2 complete rows, prescutellar seta long. Fore tarsomeres 2–4 bearing numerous short ventral setulae. Mid femur with numerous spinule-like ventral bristles. Mid tibia with ventral spinules. Hind tibia bearing 1 long anterodorsal bristle and broad and short apical projection. Wing ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 16 – 19 ) with costal index: 45/25/32/19; Rs somewhat longer than cross-vein bm-cu, R2+3 arched reaching C in apical third of wing, R4+5 and M somewhat bowed in apical half, parallels from each other near margin; CuA1 reaching wing margin; A1 inconspicuous. Basal medial cell twice longer and wider than basal radial cell; cross-vein bm-cu forming acute angle with CuA1. Abdomen with tergites 1–2 and all sternites pale yellow, almost white; tergite 3 reddish, darker than other; tergites 5–7 somewhat pale yellow in middle. Tergites 3–4 with short squamiform setae laterally. Segment 8 short ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 13 – 15. 13 ), sclerites separated, sternite lacking lateral projection; sternite 10 as in Fig. 12 View FIGURES 9 – 12 [ovipositor was macerated and was not possible to observe colour of cercus].

Male. Described by Bezzi (1909), but not analysed. Probably lost.

Type material examined. Lectotype Ƥ: PERU, Urubambafl.[ufs], 18.[0]9.[19]03, Umahuankilia [Umahuankiali] [green printed label] / Drapetis monochaeta n. sp. Rafael [blue hand-written label] / Elaphropeza monochaeta ( Bezzi, 1909) comb. n., R.A.P. Freitas-Silva det. 2009 [white hand-written label] / [SMT]. Lectotype condition: mounted in minute pin; flagellum, aristas, palpi, scutellar setae, left mid and hind right legs lost; scutum and its setae damaged. Left wing on slide; abdomen, right mid leg and left hind leg in microvial with glycerine; slide and microvial attached to specimen pin.

Geographical records. Peru (Umahuankiali).

Discussion. Elaphropeza monochaeta comb. nov. was assigned to the subgenus Elaphropeza for the first time by Smith (1967), but Rafael (1995) and Yang (2007) classified it in the subgenus Drapetis . The lectotype has the characters that define Elaphropeza , supporting its new status.

This species is represented by a singleton, housed in SMT. Bezzi’s description is not clear how many exemplars he utilized, however he presents both male and female symbols. We did not localize the male, and therefore assume that it has probably been lost. Collections in the neighbourhood of the type-locality (West of Peru) are not extensive, but based on numerous exemplars from museums and collections in Brazil near the frontier with Peru, we can presume that this is a rare species, probably living only in the borders of Urubamba River.
