2. Epidendrum campestre Lindley (1844: 17) View in CoL .
Type:— BRAZIL. Minas Gerais, Serro do Frio, in dry upland Campos , Diamond District (Diamantina), 1842, fl., Gardner 5207 (lectotype designated here: K 000880347 photo!; isolectotypes: BM 91907 photo!, F I011799 photo!, P 00467630 photo!, P 00467629 photo!, G 00388558 photo!, GH 00070147 photo!, G 00168916 photo!, K 000880343 photo!) .
= Epidendrum blandum Kraenzlin (1911: 58) View in CoL .
Type:— BRAZIL. Mato Grosso: Bocca da Serra prope Santa Anna da Chapada (Chapada dos Guimarães), 08 May 1902, fl., Malme 2266 (lectotype: S R-1926 photo!; isolectotype: S 08-3346 photo!) .
= Pseudolaelia lyman-smithii Alves (1992: 191) View in CoL .
Type:— BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: Ouro Branco, Serra de Ouro Branco , 17 September 1990, fl., Alves 1397 (holotype: RB 542704 photo!; isotype: RB 211011 photo!) .
Notes:— Epidendrum campestre was described by Lindley (1844) based on a collection series of Gardner (Gardner 5207) which includes nine specimens distributed in European herbaria. However, Lindley (1844) did not indicate which was the holotype, as was customary at the time. Lindley’s main herbarium is currently at K ( Stafleu & Cowan 1976), but we found two specimens there. We choose a single specimen to serve as the lectotype, we selected K 000880347 instead of K 000880343 because it includes two inflorescences with well-preserved flowers. The other eight specimens of the series are designated as isolectotypes.
Epidendrum blandum View in CoL is currently considered a heterotypic synonym of E. campestre ( Pessoa 2020) View in CoL . Kraenzlin clearly indicated that the type was deposited in the Regnellian Herbarium, currently S ( Santos 2016, Stafleu & Cowan 1976), but we found two specimens belonging to Malme 2266 there (R-1926 and 08-3346). We selected the specimen R-1926 as the lectotype because it includes some handwritten annotations (perhaps belonging to Malme or Kraenzlin) and two individuals with more flowers than the other sheet.
Pseudolaelia lyman-smithii View in CoL is a result of a misunderstanding; Alves (1992) confused the pink flowers of Epidendrum campestre View in CoL with those of a Pseudolaelia View in CoL . It was promptly considered a heterotypic synonym of E. campestre View in CoL by the orchid systematics community ( Pessoa 2020).
