Notes:— Epidendrum martianum was described by Lindley (1840) based on a single specimen collected by Martius, which is currently at M (holotype). In the same protologue, Lindley (1840) described E. setiferum based on collections by Martius and Gomes, without indicating one specimen as the type, as usual for the time. Today, E. setiferum is considered a heterotypic synonym of E. martianum ( Pessoa 2020) . We could not find Gomes’ specimens, but we found Martius’ collection at M. It is thus indicated as the lectotype. More recently, Epidendrum diamantinense was described by Lacerda & Castro (2012) based on a specimen from Minas Gerais, for which the holotype is at BHCB; it is currently considered a heterotypic synonym of E. martianum as well ( Pessoa 2020).
