Type locality and data. “ North America ” (LT, A, NMW) .

Material examined. Metropolitana : 1♂, Antumapu, Universidad de Chile, 20–30.VI.1989, Leg. G. Barría ( MEUC); 1♂, Quebrada de la Plata, Maipú, IV.1967, Leg. N. Hichins ( MEUC) .

References. No references for Chile or Neotropical countries.

World distribution. British Columbia, Quebec and south Mexico; introduced in Hawaii (not established) and Chile.

Chilean distribution. Only recorded for Metropolitan region ( Fig. 187 View FIGURE 187 ).

Altitudinal range. The species inhabits inland valley ecosystems (450–550 m.a.s.l.).

Biology and notes. Eupeodes americanus is here reported from Chile for the first time. Thompson in 2012 labeled a specimen from the MEUC collection as E. americanus . The label confirms that the species was found feeding on the aphid Eriosoma lanigerum (Haussman) . It is necessary to obtain new records in Chile to confirm if this species was able to establish viable populations in the country. Other aspects of its biology and ecology remain unknown in Chile.

Conservation status. Not evaluated because this species is considered exotic.
