Type:— SOUTH AFRICA. Transvaal: Steelpoort Valley, 30 miles north of Lydenburg, 7 July 1932, Van Balen & De Wyn sub PRE 14398 (lectotype PRE!, designated by Bruyns (2012: 228), isolectotype K!).
Two varieties, var. lydenburgensis and var. minor Bruyns (2018: 55) are recognized, of very local occurrence near Ohrigstad ( Bruyns 2018: fig. 39).
