Material examined. China: Yunnan: 1 male (SWU), “Wenquang Commune” (now Anning Hot Spring), Anning City [安宁市], Kunming City [昆明市], 1900m, 3.VIII.1980, no collector recorded.

Type material examined. Neotype of Eupolyphaga densiguttata designated here: male (SWU), CHINA: Yunnan: “861/ light trapping/ Lawu and Gudi, 2000m, 80.6.11/ Binchuan Group (handwritten, the detailed information is: Around Gudi Township [谷底乡] and Lawu Township [拉乌乡], Binchuan County [宾川县], 2000m, 11.VI.1980, Binchuan Group leg.)”; “992/ 5”; a determined label: “ Eucorydia maculata sp. nov. densiguttata (handwriting, “ maculata sp. nov. ” is crossed out and replaced by “ densiguttata ”)”.

Diagnosis. This species is easily distinguished from the congeners by combining the following characteristics: 1) tegmina with minute, dense, isolated and evenly-distributed maculae ( Fig. 9 H View FIGURE 9 ); 2) cerci distinctly stout; and 3) genital hook with a small spinous process near the apex ( Fig. 27 C View FIGURE 27 ).

Redescription. Male. General: measurements (mm): body length: 17.4–19.2, overall length: 28.0–31.0, pronotum length×width: 4.4–4.8×7.8–8.2, tegmen length: 24.9–26.4. Median size; yellowish brown, tegmina maculated ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 H–I). Head: chestnut, darker toward vertex. Interocular space moderate; ocelli large, ocelli ridge obtusely curved. Frons wrinkled. Antennae brown. Clypeus small; ante-clypeus occupies the lateral and hind margin, yellowish white; post-clypeus brown. Labrum round, brown, apex depressed, white. Maxillary palpi and labial palpi brown ( Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 B–C). Pronotum: brown, with a white margin anteriorly which extended to the lateral (not narrowed towards lateral). Surface generally with small brownish pubescence, anterior and lateral margins with long brown setae. Margins round, apex slightly convex, lateral fore borders oblique, then becoming straight, parallel, hind margin slightly curved ( Fig. 16 A View FIGURE 16 ). Tegmina and wings: beyond the end of abdomen 9.2–9.7 mm. Tegmina hyaline, light yellowish brown, densely covered with minute, irregular brown spots. Wings hyaline, slightly light brownish and maculated, venation distinct, brown. Legs: muddy yellowish brown, pubescent, joint parts yellow; tibial spines dark brown. Abdomen: muddy brown, slightly yellowish. Supra-anal plate pubescent, protruded; two median sclerites small; cerci short ( Fig. 27 A View FIGURE 27 ). Subgenital plate with setose margins, hind margin concave; styli small, slender ( Fig. 27 B View FIGURE 27 ). Genitalia: moderately sclerotized. Left phallomere: Anterior of L1 protruded, with a small process towards left; L2 roundly curved, right end with two processes directing to the right, wrench like; L3 short, curved, apex hook robust, with a small spinous process near the hook peak; pda and paa long, well developed; L8 median size. Right phallomere: R1M robust, hollow, hind portion enlarged; R1L well sclerotized, slender; R3 concave, transverse; R2 with two irregular chunks, outer one round, and inner one nearly quadrate, median concave ( Fig. 27 View FIGURE 27 C–D).

Distribution. China (Yunnan) ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ).

Remarks. The cockroach materials including type specimens studied and designated by Ping-Zhang Feng and Fo-Ching Woo are now kept in SWU, among which, we didn’t find the type of E. densiguttata and it was not kept in another place. Fortunately, we found two none type specimens of E. desiguttata , one of which with the similar collecting data as the original data, but slightly different in the collector and locality information: the collector in the label is a collecting group (Binchuan group), not a specific person, and the locality information is detailed to township, while the original paper (Feng & Woo 1 988) recorded the type specimen information as followed: “ Holotype, Yunnan: Binchuan, 2000m, 1980-VI-11, Guo-Rong Zhao leg.”. Apparently the none-type specimen was collected together with holotype according to the time and locality data, but Feng & Woo only designated one type specimen, and presented the information differently in the original article (simplified the locality data and detailed the collector information). Consequently, we designated the specimen from Binchuan as the neotype.
