CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Nilea hortulana ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 189) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 126) described both sexes of Exorista noctuicida without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths: “ Uterque sexus … ex pupa … nocturni Lepidopteri ortus [both sexes born from a pupa of a moth]”. Bergström (2007: 158) reported having examined the MZUF type material, adding the label “ lectotype ” and “ paralectotype ” under the specimens, without, as far as we know, publishing any lectotype designation. We found seven syntypes in this study: three males and two females in the MZUF, one female in the MSNC and one female in the MSNPV. In order to promote nomenclatural stability, we give credit to C. Bergström and here designate as a lectotype for Exorista noctuicida Rondani, 1859 the MZUF male labeled as such by him.
