Dactuliothrips kaszabi Pelikán, 1964: 267 View in CoL

Body dark brown ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 4 – 11. D ), with antennal segment III and occasionally also the base of segment IV pale ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 12 – 28 ); dark fore wings with a pale area near the base and a darker area in the middle around the transverse veins ( Fig. 78 View FIGURES 63 – 81 ). Head relatively long, covered with microtrichia and with two pairs of long postocular setae ( Figs 22–23 View FIGURES 12 – 28 ). Pronotum with developed major setae, about four pairs of setae on anterior margin and four pairs on posterior margin ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 29 – 36 ). Mesonotum covered with microtrichia ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 37 – 48 ). Metanotum with one pair of setae on anterior margin, with arcuate sculpture and with microtrichia on median anterior area ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 37 – 48 ). Fore femur with 4–9 spurs on inner margin ( Figs 63, 68 View FIGURES 63 – 81 ). Abdominal sternites covered with microtrichia with about 10 discal setae in a transverse row ( Fig. 45 View FIGURES 37 – 48 ); sternite VII with three pairs of posteromarginal setae and two pairs of slightly smaller supernumerary setae ( Fig. 51 View FIGURES 49 – 62 ). Male ( Figs 7 View FIGURES 4 – 11. D , 60 View FIGURES 49 – 62 ) with paired longitudinal ridges on abdominal tergite I that do not reach the anterior margin of the tergite ( Fig. 56 View FIGURES 49 – 62 ).

This species was described from specimens collected in Rio Negro on Fabiana imbricata (Solanaceae) ; and was also collected on Colletia sp. ( Rhamnaceae ) and rose flowers (De Santis et al. 1980). New records for this species are: Mendoza, on Berberis grevilleana (Berberidaceae) flowers; Río Negro, on apple flowers; and Chubut, on Retanilla patagonica (Rhamnaceae) .

Material examined. Argentina, Río Negro, General Roca, 2 females, on Apple flowers, 26.viii.2008 (L. Cichón); Bariloche, 5 females, 5 males, on Fabiana imbrincata , 15.xii.2009 (J. Ortego). Mendoza, Bardas Blancas, 3 females, 1 male, on Berberis grevilleana , 11.x2009 (C. de Borbón). Chubut, La Begonia, 5 females, 2 males on Retanilla patagónica , x.2008 (María E. Arce).
