Diagnosis. F. brachyptera can be distinguished from other species in the genus by the ventral lobe of the pygofer broadly triangular and not projecting very far beyond dorsal part of pygofer, subgenital plate narrow throughout its length and nearly paralleling margin of valve, subgenital plate apex roundedly pointed, aedeagal shaft relatively thick and arising dorsally from base of aedeagus, aedeagus not branched or T-shaped in lateral view, and apex of aedeagus with broad flanges in caudodorsal view.

Material examined. Holotype ♂ [ USNM]. 3 ♀ paratypes [ USNM]. 2♂, 3♀: ARGENTINA, Misiones, Est. Exp. Loreto, Dr. A.A. Oglobin [sic] [ NCSU].

Distribution. This species is known only from the in Argentina (Misiones Prov.). The type locality of Loreto is the same for many other species of deltocephaline leafhoppers due, in part, to the collections made by A.A. Ogloblin (mistakenly typed Oglobin on type series labels and Ogoblin on labels in the series from NCSU) in the early 20 th century.

Remarks. Oman (1938) lists four females paratypes, however only three were found at USNM in this study. The specimens borrowed from NCSU were previously unidentified. The species misidentified and figured as F. brachyptera in Remes Lenicov & Paradell (2009) appears to represent an undescribed species of Faltala .
