Fauveliopsis brattegardi Fauchald, 1972a View in CoL

Figure 3 View FIGURE 3

Fauveliopsis brattegardi Fauchald 1972a: 101–102 View in CoL , Fig. 4A, B View FIGURE 4 .

TL: South of Raudberg Light, Sognefjorden, Norway, 1248– 1228 m. D: Only known from the type locality.

Type material: Northeastern Atlantic Ocean, Norway. Holotype ( ZMUB 52205 View Materials ), juvenile, station south off Raudberg Lykt (61°03’ N, 05°24’ E), 1248– 1228 m, 3 May 1966 (2.1 mm long, 0.2 mm wide, 17 chaetigers; GP or oocytes not seen). GoogleMaps

Diagnosis. Fauveliopsis with 17 chaetigers ( Fig. 3A, B View FIGURE 3 ). Integument wrinkled, papillate. Parapodia with two aciculars and two capillaries per bundle (most broken, Fig. 3D View FIGURE 3 ) in the three body regions. Neuroaciculars twice as wide as notopodial ones. Interramal papillae fungiform or pyriform.

Remarks. Fauveliopsis brattegardi differs from other species in the genus, as indicated in the key above. Among those species with similar number of chaetae along the body, F. brattegardi is the only one having 17 chaetigers and four chaetae per bundle, being two aciculars and two capillaries. Because of the small number of chaetigers, the holotype might be a juvenile, but more and better specimens are needed to clarify this issue.

The polarity was correctly assigned in the original description but because chaetae often break off their exposed portion ( Fig. 3C View FIGURE 3 ), shorter chaetigers are difficult to count; the holotype has an additional chaetiger, being 17, not 16 as indicated in the original description.
