Type material. Lectotype (designated herein): NHMW 1855 /0002/0083, SL: 11.2 mm, MD: 3.5 mm, Steinebrunn ( Austria).

Discussion. This species was placed by several authors in the Fusininae genus Aptyxis Troschel, 1868 [type species: Murex syracusanus Linnaeus, 1758 , by monotypy (Troschel 1868: 61, 64), present-day, Mediterranean Sea]. This placement is surprising, because the Paratethyan species has nothing in common with the Mediterranean Aptyxis syracusana . Shape and microsculpture of the Paratethyan shell are typical for Mangeliidae .

Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Vienna Basin: Steinebrunn, Vienna /Grinzing ( Austria), Porzteich at Břeclav ( Czech Republic) (Hoernes & Auinger 1890); Pannonian Basin: Szob ( Hungary) ( Strausz 1966); Dacian Basin: Ohrid ( Bulgaria) (Kojumdgieva in Kojumdgieva & Strachimirov 1960).
