2. Gabrius breviantennatus View in CoL sp. n.

( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 A–E, L)

Type material. Holotype: CHINA: Hubei: ɗ, Shennongjia: Jiuchong: Wanjiagou, 875 m, 19.VII.1998, leg. Yu Xiaodong (IZ-CAS). Paratype: CHINA: Hubei: Ψ, same data as holotype, but 900 m, leg. Zhou Hongzhang (IZ-CAS).

Description. Head black-brown. Pronotum and elytra reddish-brown. Antennae dark brown with basal three and last one segments reddish-brown. Abdomen dark brown with posterior margin of each tergite markedly reddish-brown. Mandibles, maxillary and labial palpi and legs reddish-brown.

Body 5.56–5.71 mm long (HPL = 1.47–1.55 mm). Head of rounded quadrangular shape, 0.57–0.65 mm long, 0.57–0.65 mm wide (HW:HL = 0.88–1.14). Tempora 0.33 mm long, almost evenly rounded, sparsely and coarsely punctate; eyes moderately large, slightly protruding, 0.16 mm long, 0.50 times as long as tempora. Dorsal surface of head with scattered, large setiferous punctures along lateral sides, vertex largely impunctate; entire head with distinct and profound microsculpture of transverse waves. Antennae short, 1st segment long, slightly thickened towards apex, 3rd segment slightly longer than 2nd, 4th–6th segments almost as long as wide, 7th–10th segments distinctly transverse, last segment longer than wide, obliquely truncated.

Pronotum slightly narrowed anteriad, 0.82–0.90 mm long, 0.73–0.82 mm wide, slightly wider than head (PW:HW = 1.25–1.30); dorsal rows each with six punctures, sublateral rows each with two punctures; entire surface with microsculpture similar to that on head.

Elytra 0.98 mm long, 1.06–1.14 mm wide, along sides 1.09–1.20 times as long as pronotum, densely and finely punctate, punctures separated by 2–3 times their diameter. Scutellum large, triangular, densely and finely punctate.

Abdomen slightly narrowed posteriad, widest 0.90–0.98 mm, almost uniformly and sparsely punctate, punctures separated by 5–6 times their diameter; surface between punctures with exceedingly fine and dense microsculpture of transverse striae; tergites III–V with two basal lines, elevated area between basal lines almost impunctate.

Male. Sternite VIII with moderately wide medio-apical emargination filled by semi-membranous extension ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 L). Genital segment with styli of tergite IX simple, moderately setose apically. Sternite IX largely membranous at middle portion, basal portion almost symmetrical, apical portion split apically into two pubescent lobes ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 D). Tergite X simple, triangular, with apex subrounded, bearing two long apical setae ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 E).

Aedeagus moderately large; median lobe with apical portion evenly, narrowed into subacuate apex ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A); in lateral view, median lobe with a pair of subapical dorso-lateral extensions and apical portion slightly bent dorsad ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 B); paramere small, divided into two short and narrow branches apically, face adjacent to median lobe with sensory peg setae arranged closely at median margin of each branch ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 C).

Female. Sternite VIII subrounded at apex, without medio-apical emargination. Genital segment with styli of tergite IX similar to that of male. Tergite X triangular, similar to that of male.

Remarks. The new species is similar to G. ancoripenis Cho & Lee, 1997 in having antennae dark brown with last segment reddish-brown, elytra reddish-brown, posterior margin of each tergite markedly reddishbrown and median lobe of aedeagus with a pair of subapical extensions in lateral view. Gabrius breviantennatus sp. n. can be easily distinguished from G. ancoripenis by the paramere divided into two branches (paramere entire in the latter species).

Distribution. The species is at present known only from China (Hubei).

Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from a combination of the Latin words brevis- (short) and antenna- (antenna), and refers to the short antennae.
