Genea maculiventris Rondani, 1850 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1850c: 173.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Venezuela ” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (missing head) ( MRSN: Box 1755): Genea Rndn. maculiventris Rndn. , ♂ Venezuela / holotype ♂ of Genea maculiventris Rnd. examined 1982 D.M. Wood / Genea maculiventris Rond. 1850: 173 , Venezuela.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Genea trifaria ( Wiedemann, 1824) ( Guimarães 1971: 117, Nunez & Couri 2011: 494, Nihei 2016: 913, O’Hara et al. 2020: 687).
REMARKS: Rondani (1850c: 173) described Genea maculiventris from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from E. Truqui. Monty Wood examined the MRSN material in 1982 and labeled the single male as “ holotype ” but, as far as we know, he never indicated this specimen as holotype in any of his publication. We consider it as a syntype because Rondani did not specify he had a single specimen.
