GeOchUs nigripes Broun, 1893 ( Fig. 16 View Fig )

Geochus nigripes Broun 1893b: 1467 . Type locality: Pirongia.

Type Depository. BMNH: HT .

Distribution. New Zealand (WO).

Remarks. Broun based the description on a single specimen that we confirmed as the holotype. The specimen was labeled as a variant, but in Broun’s original description he mentioned that the species “resembles G. marginatus more than any other species; the nearly black legs and tarsi distinguish it.”

We place this species into a species group with G. tibialis .

Type Material Examined. Holotype ( BMNH): card-mounted, “2543.[in Broun’s hand]// New Zealand. [red underline] Broun Coll. Brit. Mus. 1922-482.// Pirongia// var. nigripes [in Broun’s hand]”.
