Trees or shrubs with resin producing capability. Leaves bifoliolate, leaflet asymmetric, usually with translucid dots in the lamina. Inflorescence raceme, axillary or terminal; bracts caducous; bracteoles in pairs, frequently small (less than 2 mm long), caducous or persistent. Flowers pedicelate; sepals 4, subequal, pubescent or glabrous; petals absent. Stamens (8–) 10 (–12), with alternation of smaller and longer filaments. Gynoecium monocarpellate, covered by tricomes or glabrous, stipitate or sessil, the ovary D-shaped in outline; ovules (1–) 2 (–4). Fruit folicule, obliquely elliptic or hemiorbicular, dehiscent or indehiscent. Seeds 1 (rarely 2), naked or bearing a fleshy aril.
