Gyrohypnus liber ASSING 2003

The species was described only recently ( ASSING 2003a) and is currently known only from Greece. Without even seeing any material of this species, let alone types, and without presenting any further evidence, BORDONI (2005) expresses the opinion that G. liber is conspecific with G. atratus (HEER 1839) . This approach does not meet basic requirements in scientific taxonomy (and, unfortunately, also contributes to nomenclatural instability), so that G. liber is here formally revalidated.
