Hamonthophagus bituberculatus (Oliver, 1789) View in CoL
Literature quoted. SAUDI ARABIA : Makkah Province, “Djedda” (d’Orbigny 1898c).
Material examined. None.
Distribution. Arabian Peninsula: Saudi Arabia (d’Orbigny 1898c). North Africa: Egypt ( Harold 1871; d’Orbigny 1898c). Africa: the species is widely distributed in the whole sub-Saharan area, Central and Eastern Africa, extending southwards toward Malawi, and has been introduced in Martinique (Roggero et al. 2016).
Remarks. Onthophagus bituberculatus was placed by d’Orbigny (1913) in his 32 nd group. According to Roggero et al. (2016) this group is not phylogenetically homogeneous, and for O. bituberculatus and other four Afrotropical species they have established the new genus Hamonthophagus .
