Hartmaniella tulearensis ( Amoureux, 1978) View in CoL n. comb.
( figure 1 a–i)
Pseudoninoe tulearensis Amoureux, 1978: 1098–1100 View in CoL , figure 3-3bis.
Material examined. Holotype MNHN-AK133 , Madagascar, off Tuléar (23 ° 20.2 ∞ S, 43 ° 35.6 ∞ E), dredged at 100 m, 21 February 1973, coll. Ch. Jouannic. Non-type material: La Reunion MD32 1982, Sta. 47 (one specimen), 210 m, (21 ° 22.9 ∞ S, 55 ° 36.5 ∞ E) , Sta. 154 (two specimens), 45 m (21 ° 00.6 ∞ S, 55 ° 43.8 ∞ E).
Redescription. Holotype incomplete specimen, broken in four parts, with 98 setigers, L10 = 5 mm, W10 = 1.1 mm. Anterior portion with previous oblique dissection on ventral side.
Prostomium rectangular, twice wider than long, without eyes, antennae or nuchal organs. Peristomium laterally projected over prostomium, with small papillae. With two peristomial rings, first one dorsally reduced, with large papillae on antero-ventral margin, second one wider dorsally than ventrally ( figure 1a, b). Next segment is apodous. The third segment is setiger 1; from setiger 6 to end, all segments are biannulated.
Body divided in three regions following morphology of parapodia. First region, setigers 1–5, has parapodia with digitiform dorsal cirri and globular ventral cirri, both of similar length ( figure 1c). First three parapodia tiny, in lateral position, last two have dorsal cirri displaced towards the dorsum. Second region, setigers 6–37, has parapodia with erect, bifid dorsal cirri on the dorsum, with two or three notoaciculae; ventral cirri tapering, smaller than dorsal cirri; a foliose parapodial branchia dorsal to presetal lobes, digitiform, as long as the dorsal cirri ( figure 1d). Both branchia and dorsal cirri increase their length in posterior segments; in the last segment one lobe of the dorsal cirri reduced to be almost inconspicuous. In this zone, between dorsal cirri and branchia there is a bundle of cilia attached to the basal end of dorsal cirri. The third region, setigers 38 to the end of the specimen, parapodium with simple dorsal cirri, digitiform, basally swollen; ventral cirri tapering, smaller than dorsal cirri; branchia tapering, as long as dorsal cirri ( figure 1e).
Setae limbate with serrated margin, composite spinigers from first setiger, with long appendage and shaft distally spinulose, internally with base granulated becoming canaliculated from median to distal end ( figure 1f); acicular spines from setiger 6, with a long mucro ( figure 1g). Acicula yellow, aristate, sub-distally hirsute with a long mucro with fine bristles ( figure 1h).
Mandibles not fused, black. Asymmetric maxillary apparatus of labidognath type ( figure 1i). Maxillary carriers slightly longer than MI, rounded posteriorly. MI with five teeth, the distal tooth longer; with a lateral spur on the posterior end; MII with five teeth; MIII is present only on the left side, bidentate; MIV with one tooth on left side and bidentate on right side .
Remarks. The beginning of the bifid cirri and the branchia are apparently size dependent, these can begin from setigers 5–6. The maxillary formula of MI on left side = 4–5 and MI on the right side = 3–5. The additional specimens reviewed were small, L10 from 2 to 3 mm and W10 from 0.5 to 0.8 mm.
Distribution. Southwestern Indian Ocean, Tuléar, Madagascar and La Reunion, from 45 to 210 m.
