CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Sergentomyia minuta View in CoL ( Wagner 1990: 22, Dahl et al. 1995: 32).

REMARKS: Rondani (1843f: 265) described Hebotomus minutus without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length. He certainly had the male sex because he included a drawing of the male terminalia ( Rondani 1843f: pl. 10). In the MZUF the labels with the species names have been removed from their specimens, pinned together and arranged near the specimens in the Box. We found 16 syntypes in this study. Saccà (1947: 54), in studying the type material, listed ten rather than the 11 specimens present in the MZUF, did not mention the five OUMNH specimens, and did not designate a lectotype. Rondani described the genus as “ Hebotomus ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Phlebotomus Rondani & Berté, 1840 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 94).
