Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 (distribution), 76 (parameres)
Gymnetis (Marmarina) rubida , not Gory & Percheron, 1833: Bruch 1911a: 215 (catalog; distribution): misidentification.
Hoplopyga rubida , not Gory & Percheron, 1833, in part: Schenkling 1921: 102 (catalog; distribution; references); Blackwelder 1944: 264 (catatalog; distribution); Krajčík 1998: 79 (catalog; distribution).
Distribution: ARGENTINA ( Schenkling 1921, Blackwelder 1944, Krajčík 1998): Misiones: in the Bruch Collection ( Bruch 1911a).
Material examined: ARGENTINA: Misiones: “Gob. Misiones / 3. 189 7 / C. Bruch ”, “ ♂ ”, genitalia mounted in cardboard, 1 male [ CBBA], “ Gymnetis / rubida G.P. / var. nigra ” [handwritten by Bruch ].
Male genitalia: parameres ( Fig. 76 View FIGURES 72–78 ).
Note 1: The specimen, identified as G. rubida Gory & Percheron, 1833 by Moser in a letter to Bruch dated 13 October 1908, is completely dull black, and seems to belong to the genus Hologymnetis , while the true G. rubida is currently placed in Hoplopyga ( Schenkling 1921, Blackwelder 1944, Krajčík 1998). On the other hand, it cannot be confused with black specimens of Marmarina tigrina due to the well-developed teeth on the external margin of the protibiae. Its male parameres ( Fig. 76 View FIGURES 72–78 ) are also distinctive from the male parameres of the similar black G. carbo ( Fig. 41 View FIGURES 38–41 ) or the melanic specimens of G. goryi ( Fig. 74 View FIGURES 72–78 ). The parameres of this specimen ( Fig. 76 View FIGURES 72–78 ), fused along the median line, are more similar to the parameres of Hologymnetis undulata ( Vigors, 1824) ( Fig. 77 View FIGURES 72–78 ) than to the parameres of Gymnetis . Therefore, it is referred here tentatively as one undetermined species of Hologymnetis . This genus comprises six species distributed in Central America, and a single, isolated species in South America ( Ratcliffe & Deloya 1992) . Nevertheless, also the parameres of this specimen serve for distinguish it from nearly black specimens of H. undulata (= Gymnetis consularis Gory & Percheron, 1833 ). Its melanic condition prevents the description of a new species until further specimens can be found.
Note 2: The mention of Chaco for Gymnetis (Marmarina) rubida by Bruch (1911a) may correspond to confusion with melanic specimens of G. goryi (Fig. 66).
