TYPE LOCALITY: “ in apennino parmensi [ Parmese Apennines ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype (hypopygium, fifth and sixth abdominal segments, and fifth sternite on three separate slides) ( MZUF: Box 24): Hylemyia Rndn. / spinosa Rnd., Apen. [= Apennines] / 1252 / Pegohylemyia spinosa Rondani , Holotypus / Hennig det.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Botanophila spinosa View in CoL ( Dely-Draskovits 1993: 30, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 5).
REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 181) described Hylemyia spinosa from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ Semel marem legi [I found the male once]”. Hennig (1970b: 416) reported the holotype in the MZUF. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Hylemyia ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Hylemya Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 or subsequent usage of Hylemyia Macquart, 1835 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 99).
