Hypogastrura carpatica ( Nosek, 1962) stat. nov.
Hypogastrura crassaegranulata carpatica: Nosek 1962: 13
Description (after Nosek 1962). Fourth antennal segment with 5 long olfactory hairs, tibiotarsal clavate hair as long as the ventral side of claw. Inner side of claw 1.3 times longer than the anal spines. Dens 2.5 times longer than mucro. Mucro approximately as long as the anal spines with papillae.
Distribution. Male Karpaty, cave Plavecké Podhradie (Slovak Carpathians).
Discussion. The original description of H. c. carpatica is limited and impossible to verify at present (types are probably lost Kováč in lit.). However, two distinct characters: 5 thin and long ant. IV sensilla (including only 1 dorsal sensillum, see Nosek 1962, 14: Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 8. H ) and 6 dental setae (see Nosek 1962, 14: Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 8. H ) place this taxon outside of the crassaegranulata group sensu Babenko et al. (1994). Moreover H. c. carpatica can not be refered to other known species. Considering its morphological distinctiveness and formal reasons (it can not be treated as a subspecies of H. crassaegranulata sensu nov.) H. c. carpatica is raised to the species rank. To establish the real affinities of H. carpatica stat. nov. study of topotypic material is needed.
