Species of this genus are quite similar and all of them live on Salix spp. , but they can be separated based on the wing venation. In I. similis , the first apical cell starts more to the base than the second and the third apical cell, the cell before the first apical cell is triangular and reaches the wing margin ( Fig. 33). In the vicinity of running waters on Salix purpurea L. VIIX. The species was marked as expected by COUBEAUX (1892a).
