Type citation:—“ On rocks and trees—Western slopes of the Nilagiris, 3,000 to nearly 5,000 feet elevation, very abundant.” Type:— INDIA. Nilgiris, 3500 ft., s.d., Beddome s.n. (lectotype K 000694889!, designated here).

Residual syntype: — INDIA. Nilgiris, 3000 ft., s.d., Beddome s.n. ( MH! Accession no. 7340).

Distribution:— India, endemic and rare (Kerala and Tamil Nadu).

Notes:— Beddome (1864) described Impatiens denisonii based on the specimens collected from Nilgiris. Two herbarium specimens collected by Beddome from Nilgiris are extant for this species, one each at K (K000694889) and MH (Accession no. 7340). The one best preserved, K000694889, is designated here as the lectotype as it agrees well with the protologue and also in having the illustration of dissected flower parts pasted on the sheet by Beddome. The date January 1868 mentioned on sheet is the receiving date of the herbarium specimen at K from India, not the year of collection.
