Genus INCAGONUM Liebherr, 1994 View in CoL

Incagonum Liebherr 1994: 5 View in CoL ; Moret 2005: 79; Allegro et al. 2016: 12. Type species: Anchomenus discosulcatus Dejean, 1828 View in CoL (original designation of Liebherr 1994: 5).

Anchomenus Bonelli 1810 View in CoL : Tabula Synoptica (in part); Bates 1891: 12.

Agonum Bonelli 1810 View in CoL : Tabula Synoptica (in part); Moret 1988: 120, 1989: 69–77, 1994: 307–308.

Generic Diagnosis. Among South American member taxa of tribe Platynini , Incagonum is distin- guished by the absence of subapical lateral setae on metatarsomere 4, and the very short, equally developed inner and outer apical lobes of that tarsomere. The species are of robust habitus, with the head unconstricted dorsally near the pronotum, though the head may be slightly constricted laterally behind the eyes. The pronotal laterobasal depressions are smooth, not punctate. The elytral humeral margin is rounded, not angulate, and the apicolateral margin is only slightly sinuate, the elytral sutural apex rounded. Body coloration is brunneous to piceous, with microsculpture transverse to isodiametric, the cuticular surface unmetallic to moderately irides- cent. The female reproductive tract includes a short spermathecal duct and a basal digitiform process on the spermatheca, whereas the male aedeagal median lobe surface is smooth, with the internal sac finely to coarsely spiculated, but without distinct teeth.

Liebherr (1994) assigned 19 species to Incagonum , and Moret (1994) described two more that were subsequently recombined with Incagonum when Allegro et al. (2016) newly described four species from Peru. Thus, the described Incagonum fauna comprises 25 species, to which we add the presently described species below. Roig-Juñent (2022) documented the occurrence of two species described from Chile — Incagonum chilense (Dejean) and Incagonum cordicolle (Solier) —for Argentina. To date, the Incagonum of Ecuador ( Moret 2005) and Peru ( Allegro et al. 2016, see below) are the only faunas to have been taxonomically treated subsequent to works by the original species’ authors.
