Isaloides echinatus ( Banks, 1914) View in CoL comb. nov.
Figs 6–13 View FIGURES 6 – 13
Misumessus echinatus Banks, 1914: 641 (Holotype male from Cerro Cabras, near Pinar del Rio, Cuba, deposited in AMNH 21675, examined).
Parastephanops echinatus (Banks) View in CoL . Bryant 1940: 412 (female from Santiago View in CoL de Las Vegas, Cuba, deposited in MCZ 44936, examined).
Diagnosis. Isaloides echinatus resembles the other Isaloides species (see F. O. P.- Cambridge, 1900: 163, pl. 11, fig. 5) in having a low cephalic region, the median ocular quadrangle longer than wide, five pairs of the yellow papules on the abdomen and a epigynum with large atrium. However, it differs from all other species of Isaloides by having a trapezoid atrium, long copulatory ducts and by the size (about 30% larger in total length) ( Figs 11–13 View FIGURES 6 – 13 ).
Material examined. See above.
Description. Male (from Cerro Cabras, Cuba): Total length 2.83. Prosoma: 1.37 long, 1.31 wide. Clypeus height 0.16. Chelicerae: 0.43 long, 0.27 wide. Endites: 0.32 long, 0.14 wide. Labium 0.13 long, 0.23 wide. Sternum: 0.70 long, 0.63 wide. Prosoma yellow with dark points around setae sockets ( Fig 6 View FIGURES 6 – 13 ); rounded with cephalic region low and arranged forward. Clypeus slightly inclined forward, with seven setae, one median and three marginal pairs. Chelicerae, endites, labium, sternum and legs yellow with small black spots. Anterior margin of the chelicerae with three teeth, the middle one biggest; posterior margin with two teeth. Eye diameters and interdistances: AME 0.06, ALE 0.14, PME 0.08, PLE 0.09, AME-ALE 0.06, AME-AME 0.07, ALE-ALE 0.28, PME-PLE 0.15, PME-PME 0.14, PLE-PLE 0.50. Anterior eyes row is straight with the ALE almost three times bigger than AME ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 6 – 13 ). Posterior eyes row is slightly recurved and the PME and PLE have similar size. Leg spination: femur I, d0-1-1 p0-1-0 r1-1-1; tibia I, v2-2 -2-2; metatarsus I, p1-1-1 v2-2 -2 r0-1-1; femur II, d1-1; tibia II, v2-2 -2-2 r0-0-1; metatarsos II, p1-1-1 v2-2 -2 r1-1-0; tibia III–IV, d0-1-1 p1-1 r0-0-1; metatarsus III–IV, p0-1, r0-1- Legs formula: 1243. Measurements: I, femur 2.05, patella 0.51, tibia 1.84, metatarsus 1.36, tarsus 0.67, total 6.43; II, 1.96, 0.51, 1.73, 1.27, 0.48, 5.95; III, 0.81, 0.32, 0.63, 0.43, 0.23, 2.42; IV, 0.95, 0.32, 0.70, 0.49, 0.29, 2.75. Abdomen: 1.46 long, 1.06 wide, elongated with coloration light yellow and cover by dark spots ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 6 – 13 ). Palp. Tibia without retrolateral or ventral apophysis. Tegulum discoid without apophysis, but with a shallow depression below the origin of the embolus. Embolus long and thin, coiled three times around the tegulum ( Figs 9– 10 View FIGURES 6 – 13 ).
Female (from Santiago de Las Vegas, Cuba): Total length 6.88. Prosoma: 3.51 long, 3.37 wide. Clypeus height 0.45. Chelicerae: 1.46 long, 0.92 wide. Endites: 1.06 long, 0.54 wide. Labium 0.70 long, 0.59 wide. Sternum: 1.71 long, 1.66 wide. Prosoma, chelicerae, endites, labium, sternum and legs as described in the male.
Eye diameters and interdistances: Eye diameters and interdistances: AME 0.10, ALE 0.27, PME 0.16, PLE 0.18, AME-ALE 0.11, AME-AME 0.14, ALE-ALE 0.58, PME-PLE 0.22, PME-PME 0.29, PLE-PLE 1.10. Eye tubercles as in the male. Leg spination: femur I, d0-1-0 p1-1-0 r1-1-1; tibia I, p1-0-1-1 v2-2 -2-2 r1-0-1-1; metatarsus I, p1-1-1 v2-2 -2 r0-1-1; femur II, d1-1 p1-1; tibia II, p1-1-1 v2-2 -2-2 r0-1-1; metatarsos II, 1-1-1 v2-2 r1-1-1; femur III, d2-1; tibia III, d0-1-0 p1-1 v2-2 -1 r0-0-1; metatarsus III, d1-2 p2-2 v1-1 -1; femur IV, d0-0-1; patella IV, v1; tibia IV, d2-2 v1-1 r1-1; metatarsus IV, d1-1-2 p0-1-1 v1-1 -1- Legs formula: 1243. Measurements: I, femur 3.96, patella 1.32, tibia 3.53, metatarsus 2.76, tarsus 1.09, total 12.66; II, 3.96, 1.24, 3.38, 2.62, 1.11, 12.31; III, 2.06, 0.96, 1.46, 1.11, 0.56, 6.15; IV, 2.21, 0.89, 1.72, 1.27, 0.52, 6.61. Abdomen: 4.64 long, 4.00 wide, oval and white with yellow reticulations. Epigynum. Trapezoidal atrium almost as large as epigynal plate. Copulatory openings originating from small folds on laterals of the atrium. Copulatory ducts long and coiled, visible through atrium ( Figs 11–12 View FIGURES 6 – 13 ). Spermathecae cylindrical and elongated, arranged in three coils ( Fig 13 View FIGURES 6 – 13 ). Note. In the female the papules ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 6 – 13 ) on the abdomen are not clearly observed because of the poor conservation status of the specimen.
Distribution. CUBA, Cerro Cabras; Santiago de Las Vegas ( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 ).
