Isoëtes andicola (Amstutz) L.D.Gómez, Brenesia View in CoL 18: 4. 1980.
= Stylites andicola Amstutz, Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 44: 121(–122), fig. 1957.
Range:— Central Peru to Bolivia (LP).
Ecology:— Locally common; forms dense colonies in firm cushion bogs (bofedales) in high-elevational glacial valley bottoms among species of similar growth form such as Plantago tubulosa Decne. and Disticha muscoides Nees & Meyen; 4100–4900 m.
Notes:— Megaspores 0.46–0.72 mm in diameter, smooth to slightly pustulate; microspores 35–44 μm long, scabrate; 2 n =44. The thick, vertically elongated rootstocks of this species resulted in the description of the species in the genus Stylites ( Amstutz 1957, Rauh & Falk 1959), but more recent studies have found it to be nested within Isoëtes ( Hickey 1984) .
