Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Emirau Island, St. Mathias Group by Kailola (1975: 200). KFRS material.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 4.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Wake Atoll and Pitcairn, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia, New South Wales ( Australia), Lord Howe Island and Rapa. Found in rubble or rock areas, including tidal pools, 0–5 m depth. Marine.
